SCBX Group announced a major achievement on the global academic stage, with its research team ranking 5th out of 40 teams worldwide and clinching the highest score among all industry participants in the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system development competition. The competition was held at ACM SIGIR 2025, the world’s leading conference on Information Retrieval, an event known for fostering innovations like Google’s search engine.
The prestigious competition drew top talent from globally recognized institutions and tech giants, including Carnegie Mellon University, New York University, Seoul National University, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and several leading startups.
DoTA-RAG: SCBX’s Intelligent Solution for Accurate Data Retrieval
The core of SCBX’s success was its innovation: DoTA-RAG (Dynamic-of-Thought Aggregation RAG). This next-generation RAG system was developed by AI researchers and engineers from the SCBX R&D and Innovation Lab and SCB 10X to enhance how AI retrieves and uses external information—a critical challenge given the overwhelming volume of online data.
- Key Innovation: DoTA-RAG’s unique strength lies in its multi-layered verification process. Instead of instantly using retrieved answers, the system first evaluates and ranks the credibility of multiple data sources. This process, coupled with a new database architecture, significantly boosts search efficiency across massive datasets (over 15 million documents) to deliver faster, more relevant, and trustworthy information.
- Competition Challenge: Success was driven by the team’s unique methodology, as all participants had to work with the same dataset and language models. The SCBX team proved their superior technique by completing the intense system testing phase—answering 500 questions in just two hours—with outstanding accuracy.
- Global Recognition: The team’s exceptional performance not only secured the 5th global rank but also earned them both Oral and Poster Presentation slots at the prestigious A* (A-Star) academic conference.
From Academic Excellence to Real-World Financial Application
SCBX is not stopping at academic success. The group has immediate plans to integrate the DoTA-RAG research into its business operations:
- SCB Credit Risk Analysis: The primary application will be developing RAG systems for financial document analysis to accurately assess SCB Credit Risk, enhancing the group’s financial stability and decision-making processes.
- Future Development: The team, including Saksorn Ruangtanusak, Natthapath Rungseesiripak, Peerawat Rojratchadakorn, Monthol Charattrakool, and Natapong Nitarach, will also leverage selected techniques from their research for upcoming international hackathons.
This achievement solidifies SCBX’s position as an organization deeply committed to world-class AI research and innovation, successfully bridging cutting-edge academic solutions with practical, high-value applications in the financial industry.
